~Tolkien dedicated his life to studying the languages, mythologies, culture and history of the European peoples and the fruit of his loving effort was the Lord of the Rings. However, this tome is not a simple summarization of our peoples’ cultural peculiarities, it isit's not an ode to a long lost past and it isit's not a book-end to an age gone by. This story was written in a unique time and place for exactly the people who needed to hear it.
~The pursuit of studying Tolkien in academia is scoffed at among the pseudo-intellectual "world-citizens" that now populate western universities, and for good reason.reason; Withinwithin Tolkien’s work is found the core values and ideals of Western Civilization itself. If his writings were to be given the place and honor they deserve too many western youths would be inspired by the heroism and beauty of the heroes and poetry unique to our people. Too stark would be the contrast between art and woeful modern deconstructions of it.
~But in doing so they have also shown us a way out.out...
~They pervert The Lord of the Rings and offer up their caricature, they make it easy to access, accommodate the shortest attention span, and dazzle with distracting lightsspecial effects because the last thing they want you to do is read.
~Tolkien's writings may be more timely and relevant now thenthan when they were first written. Now, the Men of the West face a hauntingly familiar peril to that found in Tolkien's timeless tale. But more important, his works show how through hardship, self-sacrifice and unity we will conquer evil.
